D.R. CONGO

Socio-economic crisis, corruption, social disorder and war are holding back the development in the Democratic Republic of Congo for years now. As a result of unemployment, violence and uncertainty, countless people from all parts of the population have migrated from the countryside to the city. The agriculture fields have been destroyed and people have been deprived of their sources of income. The situation has not changed over the years; as a result of the continuing uncertainty and the increasing poverty, the access to health becomes more and more difficult. HealthNet TPO is working in 3 regions: in the northern part of the Kivu province, in the North-eastern part of the country, in the Kasai provinces and around Kinshasa, the capital of the country.

Disease Control
The organization Asrames works in the province Northern-Kivu both in the area of the rebels and of the government as a medicine distributor. Asrames succeeded in improving and supporting elementary health in more than 300 health centres. HealthNet TPO is a partner of Asrames and contributes to the distribution of medicines. HealthNet TPO also provides technical expertise at the set up of health care systems, health financing and the control of illnesses such as Paludism.

Health System Development

Psychological Care

HealthNet TPO developed a programme for the mental care to victims of rape in the Northeast of the country. In association with local aid organizations doctors and care workers are trained to make people able-bodied and to inform people about rape as a human rights violation.
